Clergy
The clergy in the Parish are shared between the three churches of the Parish; St. Michael's, St. Nicolas and All Saints. As well as the rector and the curate, several other people are involved in the ministry of the churches. This includes Readers and non-stipendiary clergy, as well as lay volunteers who willingly carry out the many tasks required in looking after the churches and their congregations.

I joined the parish in 1995 as Rector, and have enjoyed being part of the life of this busy suburban parish on the northern edge of Southampton. Alongside church life and witness, my interests are in running, photography and bee keeping (Bassett gardens are great in providing bees with lots of free pollen and nectar). I’m married, with three daughters and my particular interests are in liturgy and worship.

Revd. Prof. Colin Morris (Retired Minister)

I was born in Yorkshire; most of my ancestors were peasants rather than knights. My profession has been that of church historian – Fellow of Pembroke College Oxford, and then Professor of Medieval History. I have just celebrated my fiftieth year in the priesthood.

John Reynolds (Reader)

A 'cradle' Anglican, I have been a Reader at St Michael's for the past 18 years. By profession I am a dentist, and I work for the Dental Practice Board, a body which oversees NHS dentistry. My interests include current perspectives in Theology, world travel, art history, and the grandchildren!

Prof. Roger Thornton (Reader)

I have been a Reader in this parish for about 17 years. The church work keeps me busy as does running a section of a Medical Research Council Unit based at the Royal South Hants Hospital. On the academic side I am a professor in, and deputy-director of, Clinical Neurosciences. Magic, cooking, music, trying to take some exercise and chairing the odd church committee ensure that I am not embarrassed by any “spare time”. The help and support of my wife Jan makes a huge contribution to all this.

Malcolm Harper (Reader)

Originally from Essex, I came to Southampton as a student in 1974 and have stayed here ever since. I am married to Rachel and have three children Katherine, Simon and Louise. I have a particular interest in church music. In my “spare time” I am senior partner of a firm of solicitors in Southampton.

I was first licensed as a Reader in 1999 to St Mary’s Parish Church in Jersey, where I lived for very many years. In 2006 I moved to Southampton and came to St Michael’s Church in October of that year. I have been made to feel very welcome here and enjoy my Reader ministry among the three churches. I am a trained Christian Listener and a tutor in listening skills with the Acorn Christian Foundation.

I've lived in Southampton since university in the early '70's. Sarah and I were married in St Michael and All Angels' in 1980, and we now both sing in its choir. I've also been involved with a number of other Southampton churches over the years, including Swaythling Baptist and City Life. I work in software engineering and currently run the UK division of a small American software company, Ivis Technologies, which is engaged in a new product development. We have three daughters and in my spare time I enjoy golf and singing.
